INSTRUMENT SETUPS

What is a setup?

- A setup is a process of fine-tuning a guitar to make it play the way it was designed to play. This process most often involves fretboard cleaning and polishing, truss rod adjustment, action (string height) adjustment, and intonation (playing in tune across the fretboard).

Why is this beneficial?

-  A setup is beneficial for the owner of the guitar and for the instrument itself. When a guitar plays the way is was originally intended, it becomes a more inspiring tool in the hands of the player. A well setup instrument is easier to play, sounds better in a mix, and builds confidence in individuals and teams. Regularly cleaned and polished frets prolong the life of the instrument by reducing string wear on frets; this can prevent costly future repairs and replacements.

How often do I need to get an instrument setup?

-  Just like most anything in life, materials and components shift over time. Having a setup done straight from the factory gives a baseline playability expectation for the life of the instrument and depending on how often it is used, a setup is beneficial every two to three years.

How can I get Dave to work on my guitar?

- You can reach Dave locally or on the go! Dave is based out of the Mobile, Alabama region and can be contacted for your local setup needs. He now offers an on the go service called Dave's Tone Hauler for out of town clients.

What is Dave's Tone Hauler?

- The Tone Hauler is a mobile guitar shop that will travel to you for a bulk setup event. Many organizations such as churches, studios, schools, festivals, and more can and have already benefited from this unique service! The event usually lasts one to two days, depending on the number of guitars and the needs of each one. The Tone Hauler is self-contained, with the only need being a place to park and a power plug.  Because of this, Dave is able to provide professional quality setups on site but out of the way of day-to-day operations.
